At the commencement of the project, the required Listed Building consent had already been granted by the local authority, with the support of chartered surveyors, Lowe and Elliot, who were retained to oversee the selection of contractors and monitor the work progress and financial spend.

The Barracks Trust was then able to select a principle contractor to manufacture the required replacement windows. Local joinery company, Len Jones, was appointed on the basis of quality of workmanship, past work and cost, as well as the company's relationship with the locality.

Townsend & Renaudon were selected as a suitable construction, health and safety company to assist with documentation and to carry out regular inspections on site.

The first phase, including the installation of 18 windows, was completed by early 2020 (before the Covid 19 outbreak), with a further 19 windows installed later that year. The windows were manufactured and installed in line with the budget and the project manager ensured that the works were carried out in a very professional manner, with careful liaison with tenants, the Trust and the buildings users.

The windows were found to have made a big impact on the building, which was backed up by our survey, in which over 80% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the Barracks was in better condition as a result.
