From 6^th – 14^th May 2022 an exhibition about the Back to the Barracks project took place in an empty shop space in Newcastle-Under-Lyme town centre.

The space was provided by Appetite, an Arts Council funded Creative People and Places initiative, as part of their Newcastle Common programme where empty shops are turned in to creative spaces.

The exhibition was created by Stoke based Artist/Curator Siobhan Mcaleer and featured a variety of artworks, photos from the project, items made with the community during the project, historical documents and maps. On the 14^th May a final project celebration took place.

Activities Included:

• Newcastle Town Cryer wrote and performed three town cries about the project.
  
• A live performance of original songs, written about the Barracks and its history, by Average Joe took place.
• Visitors used photography to create an acetate cartoon drawing of themselves which was then projected on to an old image of the Barracks.
• People made paper plant pots and sowed herbs and flowers that were growing around the Barracks when it was built in 1854 to take home for their gardens and windowsills.
• Limited edition Barracks Lucky Bags were handed out.
• Visitors were able to go on guided walk to the Barracks while looking at the heritage of the town from the perspective of the trees.
