This book was produced for the project with the aim of giving people insight into the Barracks, the people who lived and worked there, the environs of Newcastle-under-Lyme and life there in Victorian times.

It was written by Barracks Trustee Rene Carlisle. Research was done by Rene using Wikipedia, the census' of England and Wales, Corporation rent records and personal recollections written in 1919, by Mr. A. Ryles (a former Barracks trustee), of army personnel still living in the Barracks after it was acquired by the Corporation.

Rene’s interest in documenting the history stemmed from her grandfather, who served at the Barracks. A photo of him is included in the book.

The book proved very popular. 800 copies were printed and it was shared via Facebook digitally.
